“Festus...declared: ‘You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you will go!’”

- Acts 25:12 NIV

There are times in life when the cards seem to be stacked against you, when you are accused, rejected, and up against a wall.  In this passage, Paul saw his options and called an audible.

You might think that this football term of making a last-minute decision based on the current line up that you are up against lacks strategy, planning and foresight.  You might also think that in calling an audible, Paul was acting out of weakness or fear (choosing to not stand trial before the Jews, but choosing instead to go before Caesar).  But the reality is that Paul’s decision to postpone what was before him not only gave him distance from the immediate situation that he was in, but also gave him time to seek God’s wisdom and discernment.

Whether in our past, our present, or our future, we each face moments when we feel that our backs are up against a wall.  Choosing to respond with the love and grace of Jesus not only reflects the transformation that God has already made in you, but also shines a light on how He is currently working in and through you.

[Upward] What did this passage reveal to you about God? Praise him for being that God.

[Inward] What did this passage bring up in you? Be honest with God about your questions and shortcomings, your fears and desires.

[Outward] What does this passage call me to in relationship to others in my world? Ask God to help you take your place in the new chapter of the Book of Acts that is being written in your life today.
