FOSTER YOUTH

Support Foster Teens
Who: Small Group Friendly, Adults only
When: Mondays, Fridays around 5-8pm
Where: Orange County
What: Volunteer at an event that is hosted for 90 of the most at-risk youth in the OC foster care system put on thru Social Services. Sign up and we'll let you know about upcoming monthly events.

CASA
Who: Adults 21 & Over
When: Flexible
Where: Orange County
What: Become a CASA for a child in the foster care system. For those who have a heart for foster children, but may not have the capacity in their homes, this is the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a foster child. A CASA provides a one-on-one stable, adult relationship for an abused child and independently monitors the child's circumstances in order to provide fact based information to the court in the best interest of the child. The CASA is the voice of the child to the court.

What: Mentor a foster youth, help support foster parents with providing dinners, volunteer at the visitation center, provide childcare, etc.

Become a Safe Family
Who: Adults Only
Where: LA & Orange Counties
What: Safe Families take a child into their home on a temporary basis--sometimes a weekend, sometimes months--to allow parents to be given the chance to keep their parents rights while getting back on their feet or during crisis/illness. Safe Families is a program of Olive Crest and they would love to tell you more!

EDUCATION/MENTORSHIP

Mentor or Support Young & Vulnerable Parents at Fristers
Who: Connection Group Friendly

Where: Anaheim, La Habra, Santa Ana
What: Fristers gathers young moms and dads to teach life skills, parenting, and offer support...all much needed for those young adults bravely choosing to parent. At the same time their children are cared for and given a preschool-like education. Provide and serve a hot dinner (homecooked or store-bought) for one of their classes, help with childcare, or volunteers to do one-on-one coaching with a mom or dad.

Donate New Clothing to Students in Need
Who: Family Friendly, Connection Group Friendly

What: Bring new socks, underwear, uniforms and/or shoes for local students in need at a Title-1 (low income) school in our neighborhood. Shopping list sent to you after signing up.

Joya Scholars Tutoring Program
Who: Adults only
When: Wednesday Nights bi-weekly
Where: Fullerton
What: Help break the cycle of poverty one student at a time using education. Mentor one of the 1,200 low income children in the Garnet district of Fullerton and give them a chance at a better future. 2 or more years of college education required to serve. Commitment is every other week but try it once first if you like!

Project Hope Aliiance
Who: Adults only

Where: Costa Mesa
What: Help support and empower homeless students and their families by supporting the work of Project Hope Alliance. Volunteer opportunities vary from time commitment, area of engagement, and availability from sorting/organizing donations, tutoring/mentoring students, assembling snack bags, etc.

Volunteer at Mercy House Shelters
Who: Adults Only (in most cases)

What: Volunteers needed for Mercy House Shelters including Bridges at Kraemer Place, Family Care Center, The Orchard, The Link and the Armories. Sign up to work a shift (typically 3-4 hours long) any day of the week available. A background check is needed and available days vary.

Donate Hygiene Items to Mercy House Shelters

Serve Lunch and Beautify Your Community Alongside Homeless Neighbors

What: Serve with A Better Way Anaheim 1-4 times per month. The program matches up a few community volunteers alongside 5 vetted homeless individuals to complete a Love Anaheim project such as Park Beautification, Trash Can Painting, fire hydrant painting or various similar projects. Come out with 2-4 friends, provide a lunch and beautify our community with our homeless neighbors!

Welcome Baskets for Homeless Neighbors Moving into New Homes

What: Provide a welcome basket of vital household supplies for individuals/families transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing with City Net's Housing Navigation Program.

Jobs for Life
Who: Adults Only
When: Tuesday Evenings
Where: Anaheim
What: Jobs for Life is a program where volunteers champion individuals transitioning out of homelessness by helping equip them with the tools needed to land and keep a job. The program is held at Bridges at Kraemer Place (homeless shelter) and is in partnership with OC United. They are always looking for volunteers to serve in a number of positions, and especially as champions (mentors), who will connect one-on-one with the (adult) students. Three sessions annually- sign up to get more info before the next one begins.

Meal Kits for Homeless Shelters
Who: Connection Group Friendly, Family Friendly
When: Felixible
Where: Santa Ana
What: Donate meal kits, welcome or exit kits for individuals experiencing homelessness that are living at local emergency shelters. Kits serve as a meal or are given upon their arrival to the shelter or as they exit the shelter to transition to more permanent housing.

What: Get educated and volunteer with Orange County's Human Trafficking Task Force in various capacities to help with things like survivor monthly events, community educational events, at-risk youth prevention programs, life skills workshops etc.
